101 North

We left the River Walk RV Park in Fortuna, heading north on 101.

Ace discovered he could get out of the Puppy Car seat in the back of the truck and decided he preferred traveling in my lap.

RVs on the road

I was surprised at the number of RVs we saw on the road. I had expected less after Labor Day. I guess there are a lot of us retirees on the road.

We were driving along the Pacific Coast.

Joe and Jerry

We noticed an Airstream parked on one of the coastal pullouts and decided to stop and see how they were doing.

Joe and Jerry, members of our caravan had decide to stop and enjoy the view.

Imprompt gathering

A large group of our caravan came upon us and we had a impromptu gathering.

Visitors Center

We stopped at the Kuchel Visitor's Center. The center features displays about the national park including one describing the restoration of land that has been extensively logged. A small theater shows video presentations about the coastal redwoods, and a short interpretive trail leads through wetlands to the beach.

Parking lot

The parking lot at the Visitor's Center totally taken over by Airstreams.

At the suggestion of one of our members, John White, we took a scenic byway that went thru Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.

Old growth

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, mostly old growth forest of coast redwood, western hemlock and Douglas fir with Sitka spruce and red alder was incredibly beautiful.

If you are in the region it is worth a visit.

Our destination for the evening was the Hiouchi RV Resort near Crescent City, OR.

I liked this park better than the other ones we have visited near Crescent City because it was more inland and warmer.

Here is Ace enjoying being outside at Hiouchi.
